During the months of February, March and April, fish worth over 1,2 billion Norwegian kroner will be caught in the traditional Norwegian winter fishing. The industry relies heavily on foreign seasonal workers – but when Norway in January 2021 introduced an entry ban due to Covid-19, just a brief month before the traditional fishing started, it was an abrupt stop for the entire industry.

It was urgent for the fish factories to get enough employees in place in time, because once the cod arrives, it does not wait. At the same time, several unemployed Norwegians saw the opportunity to test out the traditional and physical profession.
